A New WWE franchise Posted Wednesday, July 28, 2010 by XBNV THQ has already revealed a new WWE franchise this year with WWE All Stars (pictured above), but that's not the only new WWE game that it has in development besides Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. THQ's core games VP, Danny Bilson, revealed to CVG that another WWE franchise is in the works and, like All Stars, it will be "less simmy" than the Smackdown vs. Raw series. Bilson didn't offer up any details about it other than his comment that it would be less of a simulation, but did note that it wasn't Smackdown vs. Raw Online, the Asia-only PC version of SvR. Bilson explained we likely won't see the game the game brought to the West in order to avoid cannibalizing sales of the Smackdown vs. Raw series proper, and also because it would likely need to be modified to work for Western audiences.
"[Smackdown! vs Raw Online] is for Asia," he said. "I don't think there's any chance of that coming to the US or Europe, not soon anyway. We don't want to confuse Smackdown Vs. Raw! [the brand] with that online free-to-play game.
"That's a big, expensive title, Smackdown Vs. Raw! -- we will not do any cannibalization of it at all. The online game is also designed uniquely for Asian playing habits and it would probably have to be modified creatively to bring it to the West."
Without knowing anything more, it's hard to make an educated guess about what this new franchise could be. All Stars seems to be occupying the space of 'arcade-style wrestling game' pretty well, so another game in that mold might be overkill unless it has some unique twist. All Stars already features WWE Legends, so some off-shoot of Legends of Wrestlemania might not carry enough weight as a result.
